"Did you miss me, wife? Oops, my bad, Ex-Wifey." ex-Wifey? Is he back? Is he? Was the person messaging him? Was he the one who sent me photos and tried to create a misunderstanding between me and Rajveer? I could feel his demonic eyes on me, the feel of his filth.
Thinking about this all had me shaking like a leaf. I couldn't help but feel tremors building up inside me. What does he want from me, now after wrecking my life? What should I do? Should I run somewhere? Should I drown in a river? NO. NO. NO. I can't leave my son with them, with him, alone.
I could feel the sweat drops forming on my spine, with fear and the suffocation I could feel. I am not able to breathe. It's like I am in a small room. Trapped and shackled while the walls move closer towards each other, compressing m—
"Breathe...Slowly. Yes Love, Just like that." The familiar soothing voice reached my ears and I was back in our bedroom, the soft glow from the bedside lamp illuminating the room. A large hand is draped around my waist like a quilt. I looked down to find my mobile phone on the floor, I didn't know when it slipped.
My senses were back again but my heart was still pounding and racing hard against my chest. Suddenly I felt a small fingers wiping down my tears. My vision was much clearer now as I looked to find Rehan sitting in Raj's lap wiping my tear-streaked cheeks while my husband held me close to him, not much but close enough that I could smell his masculine scent.
"Mumma, Are you okay?" Rehan's sweet voice brought my eyes to him he looked at me with shiny eyes. "Mumma is fine Rehan." My husband replied to his question whilst I stared at them. Sometimes, A thought crosses my mind Why can't be Rehan someone else's son? He might be a gift to me but I am not a good mother to him.
I gave an assuring nod to Rehan and tried my best to smile. Rajveer handed me a glass of water which I gulped in one go. "Rehan you want to sleep or not?" He asked Rehan in a small voice. "No" Rehan pouted in response which earned him a ruffling of his hair. Rajveer turned towards me as he stared at me while he picked up my phone from the floor.
He didn't open or see anything before he handed it back to me. "I don't know what you saw that triggered you but you can tell me when you're comfortable." His voice dropped a few octaves so Rehan couldn't hear what he was saying. I met his warm concern-filled gaze when I looked up. His eyes said it all even though he wasn't opening up much.
"By the way you bought dresses today?" He questioned softly. "Yes," I replied unsure of where this conversation was heading to. "Then wear one of them." Saying this he turned around to face Rehan. "Come here Baby, let's go down again. I think the night's going to be long."
"But why?" I blurted out before he and Rehan could step out of the room leaving me dumbfounded on this very bed.
"Be Quick, Buttery." He muttered as he stepped out with Rehan leaving me behind. What was he up to? Thinking about various consequences and the message, I stood up with wobbly legs. The message. The creepiness of his voice, I could feel it all. What if someone was pranking me right? Yeah, it could be, right? Just like someone did prank me by sending me some photos and I naively thought they were real. It was when I zoomed in to get the idea they were edited.
But if this message was true? A small part of my brain nagged. Should I tell Raj about this? But what if he gets hurt? No, No. I couldn't risk someone innocent's life. This whole thing was about me. I think I should face it with courage. Queens don't cry, I remembered this saying but I couldn't help 'cause I am not even a queen.
Squaring my shoulders and wiping my tears I walked into the closet and opened one of the white boxes. There was a navy blue satin dress that I bought today and to be honest this was the only presentable thing in my cart because the other ones were chosen by Anvi and Anita. Those two are the craziest people in my life.
I washed my face and wore the same dress. I even put a lip gloss to complete the look. Taking a last look at myself in the mirror, I decided to descend downstairs barefoot because who wears slippers with pretty dresses? The marble floor was too cold for my liking but it felt like I was in an ice castle wearing a gown. My very Silly thoughts.
"Wow!" A squeal came when I landed at the end of the staircase. I looked around to find Rehan's mouth opened in an 'O' while Rajveer sat there on one of the couches frozen and his lips parted a bit. Looking at their shocked faces A smile threatened to form on my lips even though I tried to maintain a neutral expression on my face. Despite my trying, my cheeks reached out wide and I laughed silently.
The air around me seemed to ease a bit as I reached near them and Rehan abruptly threw himself on me. "Mumma, You look like a princess!" He exclaimed as he clapped both of his hands covering his mouth. "Yeah, Indeed a Princess." Beside him, Raj gasped looking a bit shocked and thrilled maybe? Watching them carefully I decided to a show for them.
I took a few steps back near the windows that provided the beautiful glow from the city. I picked up my dress in both of my hands to give them a glimpse of my silver anklets and started twirling as my mind played the music of its own.
I was concerned to see her get her panic attack for the second time tonight. So I decided to ease her and deviate her mind from whatever reason that triggered her. I am unaware of her demons and all but I just started to know her and I couldn't muster up the courage to ask her directly or even demand her. That was not my place for now but if she kept me to that place, she would tell me and keep faith in me.
"Mumma, You look like a Princess!" Rehan let out a sigh before clapping his hands over his mouth dramatically when he saw her in her satin navy blue colored gown.
"Yeah, Indeed a Princess." I gasped when I took a once-over. Queen was what I wanted to say but kept my mouth shut. She laughed silently, her perfect set of teeth visible. The cleavage of her dress isn't deep but not so decent too. It did things to me, the weird ones.
But that was not the only thing she did because now she stepped a little back towards the floor-to-ceiling windows and bunched her dress a little high so we were able to see her feet. My breath caught in my throat when I saw her anklets shining in the light. So those were the little demons making tinkling sounds. She did a twirl and a dance step on which I couldn't focus because my attention was drawn to her feet.
I thought people with foot fetish were weird but damn it, Now I know the feeling it set in your whole body. A throat-clearing sound brought my attention back to her. She was eyeing me suspiciously from the look on her face while Rehan was still sitting like a statue his tiny hands on his mouth. He looked cute and a little funny too. Suddenly he jumped off the couch and screamed before bursting into a fit of giggles.
I couldn't help but let out my laugh watching him. But I think my wifey took the indication wrong because she was scowling at both of us. "You looked so so so good, Mumma" Rehan managed to blurt in between his giggles and her scowl eased a bit.
"Too good for my eyes." I grinned like a fool and she huffed out a breath. So I stood up walking up to her slowly and calmly before snaking my arms around her waist. She gasped from the contact and I could feel her heart pounding in her chest.
"A dance, Please?" I plead to her, for the first time to someone. She looked up at me as if unsure of what to say or maybe surprised at my action. Rehan was now quiet and I whipped around to find him looking at us with an awestruck expression on his face.
She followed my gaze and I could see her lip twisting in a smile. I pulled a little back from her and turned around. "You want to join, baby?" I asked him but he shook his head aggressively. "No, I want to see you dance together." His reply shocked me. Despite his young age, he was too mature and his understanding was out of league.
I gave him a nod before commanding Alexa to play a song, "Alexa, play Kaise Hua by Vishal Mishra." Soon the song started playing and I grabbed Adhvi's hand in mine, pulling her close as we moved with the flow of the song.
'Hansta rehta hoonTujhse mil kar kyun aajkal?Badle-badle hainMere tevar kyun aajkal?Aankhein meri har jagahDhoondhein tujhe bewajahYeh main hoon yaKoi aur hai meri tarah?Kaise hua? Kaise hua?Tu itna zaroori kaise hua?Kaise hua? Kaise hua?Tu itna zaroori kaise hua?'
As the verses went by I kept looking at her face, her doe eyes, and her sharp cheekbones. I spun her around and grabbed her waist as our steps started synchronizing with each other as well as the song.
"Theher jaa, theher jaa," yeh kehti hai teri nazarKya haal ho gaya hai yeh mera?Aankhein meri har jagahDhoondhein tujhe bewajahYeh main hoon yaKoi aur hai meri tarah?Kaise hua? Kaise hua?Tu itna zaroori kaise hua?Kaise hua? Kaise hua?Tu itna zaroori kaise hua?Kaise hua? Kaise hua?Tu itna zaroori kaise hua?
The song started fading as I pulled her to my chest, grabbed her waist in both of my hands, and lifted her above, twirling her round and round until the song's last beat. I was lost in her eyes and the effect she had on me was never-ending. Her eyes were wide when I put her down back on the floor. She winced when her bare feet touched the cool marble.
Our intense staring was broken when clapping and giggling sounds came from where Rehan was sitting. He ran towards us hugging our legs and I picked him up in my arms.
"Prince and Princess." He chirped happily while my wife chuckled as she sat on one of the couches watching me and Rehan. I walked towards her Rehan in my arms and sat beside her. My heart was racing from the earlier performance but it was worth it.
"You feeling good?" I interrogated her because I was genuinely concerned for her, a lot actually. I couldn't put out certain things happening to me and I am sure she feels the same. Her eyes reflect her emotions clearly even though she tries not to. She's like a mystery or even a puzzle that I am too desperate to solve.
"Yes" Her reply was short but her face said it all as she smiled at me.
"What should we do now? Play cards?" I asked her because I wasn't sure of what I was doing. "Nah, I want to sleep 'cause I'm feeling dizzy from all the spin you'd done." Her tone was a bit teasing. I winked at her at the same time I picked up Rehan and gestured for her to follow me to the bedroom.
The tinkling of her anklets was the only sound the entire time we reached our bedroom after our little dance performance. She went to change into her Pajamas again and Rehan waited for her. I sat beside him staring at the front wall, Moreover, I was doing the exact thing too, waiting for her.
After she came back, we all slipped inside the warm covers and switched off the lights. Our little family felt too real to be true. Never in my life, I thought I would be married someday and dance and laugh being carefree. If someone told me this thing a decade ago, I'd have laughed my ass off but now these little things were doing something to my heart or I was under a magic spell.
I jumped awake from my sleep when my alarm clock beeped continuously. I looked around to see my baby sleeping peacefully but beside him the bed the empty. Turning around, I looked at my phone when the notification pinged on it. I was confused about where he went this early in the morning.
I picked up my phone to see the notification, it was from Veer. "I got a call early morning and I had to attend an important meeting. If there's any problem, You can call me anytime. Have a sweet Sunday Morning, Love"
I smiled reading his text and he called me Love. I set my phone back and went to take a shower trying not to disturb Rehan. I did my morning routine and took a warm shower before wearing my suit. I strolled back into the bedroom, a happy grin on my face.
I was about to wake up Rehan for his morning bath when my phone lit up again with a new notification. 'It might be from Veer' I thought or maybe from Anita or Anvi. So, I picked it up my smile stretching wide on my face. My heart was still fluttering from his message earlier and now again. I was giddy with excitement and that was going straight to my pounding heart while my stomach was churning.
My brows creased when I saw the message was neither from my husband nor from any of my friends. It was from an unknown number, this time the number was Indian. The message showed a video sent from the other end and it wasn't from the number that texted me yesterday.
Was he really back or am I just overthinking? My smile dropped into a frown while my heart was now pounding from various other reasons in front of me. Should I open the message or not? Maybe I was overthinking, right?
I opened the message and pressed on the video which started with a black screen and then there were flames, a lot of flames. Then the video zoomed out and it was indeed a massive fire but much to my surprise it wasn't a mere fire, It was a fire to a car and then the view of Veer's private parking lot came into view.
The car was out of the parking area as if it was going to park there. I couldn't even see the car's number properly. Then the video went blank and I was surprised and half shaking from the view too.
Why was someone sending me burning car videos that too in Veer's parking lot? Are they threatening to do the same to Veer? The thought was doing something to me and I could feel that something was wrong. Too wrong.
I typed a response but stopped mid-way when a message popped up. "May your Husband rest in ashes, Precious. Sincere condolences from your love."
