#31| Only Her

Smacking a kiss, My wife just hopped out of the elevator leaving me with my erratic heartbeat but that one action of her relieved rigidness from my body and I'm quite thankful to be with her. I just can't believe myself, the person who never loses control over women is now blushing, smiling, and giggling a lot. She is the light in the night—my light in the night. But my relief moment didn't last long when the elevator stopped on the thirty-second floor where my office is nicely tucked in one corner from where I can watch my employees on the big screen, right side there are conference rooms. The private conference rooms are upstairs and used for private meetings with board members or investors.

There are a few people working on this floor and those are mainly trainees and their trainers in groups because I can keep a good eye on them easily while the other floors are connected through CCTV and I can watch everything from my place itself. As I walked past the employees they greeted me a good morning which I acknowledged with a nod. Mohan, My PA stood there with his tab in one of his hands while the other jotted down the notes quickly I sat on my chair and asked him to tell me my schedule for today.

"Sir, there is a meeting in an hour by the head of departments on the new product launching." He said quickly looking at me for an answer while I continued to check the files to be signed. I gave him a nod and he bowed before he left my office and sat on the front table with his assistant because this man was going to retire.

I don't know why my employees are retiring, at first, Mr. Verma who just came submitted a huge apology letter along with his resignation letter, and now Mohan who sent me an email yesterday about how his daughter living abroad is asking him to live there permanently. I don't even know about this new assistant, he is young and from his looks, he is quite confident and reticent which I love in people.

I stood from my desk and walked outside to take a good look at my employees and their work before the meeting started. Seeing me come out Mohan and the new boy stood in greeting.
"Sir, is there anything you need?" Mohan asked and I shook my head before replying, "I'm going for a quick round. Wanna join?" I eyed the new boy who seemed to understand the assignment because he gave a nod. He looks a couple of years younger than me and is quite handsome, I've to agree.

I turned around the corner, my new assistant behind my trail as we took rounds on each floor watching the people working in harmony and peace.
"What's your name?" I asked him.

"Ishaan Aggarwal" His reply was to the point without any further digging into his family or name. I already like this boy.

I gave him a nod and then we went to Adhvika's floor and I found her sincerely working on her laptop in her glass cubicle beside the head's cabin. She had her glasses on and damn they look quite good on her. I didn't know she wore glasses just like me. It's like a match made in heaven for real. A smile formed on my lips watching her work and my gaze then swept over other employees working.

A few employees were chatting and went back to their work when I almost yelled at them while the others working sat in stiff postures. I listened to a few whisperings saying 'cold devil', 'Arrogant', and many more and I almost laughed because they get a good salary, bonus, and perks and what more they still want. To gossip? Yeah, that's for sure.

The next, I went to look at Anita's floor and saw her working too and I gave her a nod to appreciate her work. I've to agree our company's employees are hardworking but they are rumor cells that is the drawback but it happens a lot when employees do parties and all.

After a quick round, I was to attend regular meetings till 7 in the evening but still, the work wasn't over. Anita went to pick up Rehan from school and stayed home while Adhvika was still working on her laptop and her eyes were red from this much screen time. Other employees went home and there were only a few people left including me.

I am here in my office checking the proposals from companies and a few restaurants and hotels for our new division. My phone buzzed on my desk breaking my concentration. It was a text from Anita.

Anita: Bhai, I and Rehan are going to Anvi's for a sleepover. We persuaded Bhabhi but she didn't come.
Me: Ok, Take care of Rehan.

Sending the response I went over with the work and went to pick up Adhvi who was now packing her things. Seeing me she passed me a smile and the following we were in the parking area. We didn't speak until we reached our car in the parking lot.

I opened the passenger side door for her but she didn't get inside.
"What happened?" I asked my brows furrowed in confusion.
"I'll drive today." Her reply came.
"But you look tired." I tried to convince her.
"You look more tired actually." She shot back and her eyes narrowed.
"Okay Okay, but you don't know the location." I grinned when her face formed into a scowl.
"I know where your house is."
"We are going to my penthouse."
"What? Why?" Her reply was laced with confusion.
"I don't usually spend time there, I and Anita live in the penthouse."
I live there along with Anita but our apartments are different because I like my personal space and she likes hers so we are neighbours.
"Oh." She said quietly.

I gestured for her to sit but she was being stubborn today. "You can turn the location on for me." I sighed in defeat and nodded. She grabbed the key from my grip and settled in the driver's seat.

"Come on, My passenger prince." She teased while grinning like a child. I sat beside her and turned the location on for her. The next we are out on the road toward our place. We didn't speak the entire ride as the ride is only ten minutes from here so it's easy when I'm working late.

"So how was your first day?" I asked her when we reached my apartment and she removed her heels near the door while I followed holding her purse. She looks pretty as hell in her business suit. Perfection it is. I turned on the soft lights in the living room as she sat on the couch.
"It was good. I met new people." Saying this she patted on her side and I sat beside her as she relaxed.
"That's good."

"I didn't know you had floor-to-ceiling windows." She observed every corner as if it were new to her. Earlier when she came the curtains were drawn and she wasn't in the state of exploring the space.

"You like it?" I asked her curious to know her views.

"Like? I love it actually." She grinned her eyes half-lidded and I smiled. I was about to ask more about her day when her phone started buzzing and I closed my mouth.
"Hy Maa..... Yes, I'm good... he is good too.....Yeah yeah, your son-in-law is perfect and fine." She communicated this part looking at me with a smirk and I let out a silent chuckle. My girl is being naughty.

She said bye to her Mom and set the phone aside. She didn't ask about Rehan so I think she knew about their sleepover plan.

"Are you hungry?" I questioned her and she nodded. I don't know what to do because I'm far away from cooking and the maid is on leave for a few days so I think I've to order food.
"What happened?" She asked suspiciously.

"I am going to order a takeout." I picked up my phone ordering food when it was snatched away from my grasp. I looked at my wife who was now standing with a scary smile.
"What's your wife for?" She questioned and I was confused as hell about what she meant.
"Don't look at me like that. I am going to prepare dinner and don't try to order anything." Saying this she handed me my phone back and walked towards the kitchen and I followed behind her.

"You don't have to." I tried to argue.

"I am doing this for my husband." She batted her eyelashes and my stomach did that flip if it was even possible.

"Shoo...Shoo... go and change." She shooed me and I followed her command and went inside the room took a shower and put on my pajamas and t-shirt before coming downstairs to the savory smell coming from the kitchen and my mouth watered. I was about to enter the kitchen when I saw her talking on her phone while she cooked. I stood there watching her.

"Adhvika either toh you need sun for vitamin D or someone's son to give you Vitamin D." The voice from the other end came and I almost choked on air listening to her loose tongue and I knew that was Anvi. I peeked a little and came to know that she was on video call with Anvi and Anita was beside Anvi.

"Why would Bhabhi need someone's son for Vitamin D? She already got my brother." This was Anita and I'm going to stretch her ears out when she comes back home.
"You two are shameless. I'll never leave my baby with you two." Adhvika spoke her face flushed from embarrassment.

"Oh please, your baby is too advanced. He kissed Arin on her cheek and gave her a sunflower." Anvi's statement made Adhvika cough but I stood in my place because I was too shocked to move.
"You are kidding me!" Adhvika's voice was louder laced with shock and Anita giggled.
"No Bhabhi he really did that," Anita said.

"Yes, and I don't mind at all but Aaron would mind so I didn't tell him," Anvi spoke with a bashful grin. I went near them listening enough for today that I am going to smack my head somewhere.
"Hey, Bhai." Anita chirped and Adhvika turned around immediately and smacked her forehead in my chest.

"I think it's time for Vitamin D." Saying this Avni and Anita giggled before ending the call leaving me and a very red Adhvika.
"For how long you were here?" She asked looking everywhere but me.

"I just came now." As the words left my mouth she sighed in relief. I chuckled internally but I don't plan on making her uncomfortable. I am happy when she gets chatty with me.
"What are you preparing?" I asked looking at the flour and vegetables in the pan.
"um, I checked the fridge there were fresh vegetables so I am making roti and sabzi with raita." Saying this she started rolling tortillas while I watched her in awe. She was struggling with her hair so I tied them in a bun and she gave me that adorable smile of hers which is only for me to watch.

"What was Maa saying earlier?" I asked.
"She asked me to visit her today, I was busy and got sidetracked. So I fixed the time for tomorrow."
"You must have told me about it."
"Okay, boss next time sahi." She grinned as she flipped the roti on the pan while I leaned on the counter watching her carefully.

After everything was done, I helped her gather the plates to the dining table. I was about to serve us both but she stopped me with a hand gesture and pulled me on a chair beside her while she served us both on a single plate.

"What are you trying to do, Wifey?" I asked her amused at her actions but deep down I was jumping in excitement like a kid.
"Serving food, Hubby." She smiled and I am floating in the sky. She looks cute and so adorable, she's the only person I love to listen.
"Why on the same plate?"
"Can't we?" She side eyed me and I let out a chuckle ruffling her hair.
"We have the rights, babe." Saying this I started eating my food while she blinked a few times a small smile on her face. My wife is shy! Damn.

"I am going to change." She said after we were done eating and cleaning in peace. I gave her a nod and she rushed upstairs to change while I sat there on the couch staring at the dark sky and I think it's going to rain today.
Memories started flooding in front of me while I stared and stared and the only thing I could see was darkness and the snarky remarks from people.

(FLASHBACK)

It's my senior year at Harvard Business School. Yes, I have lived here with my grandparents since the day I turned eight. I was a brilliant student in school and university. I've had the highest GPA, and everyone, judging by my looks, called me a nerd.

A nerd with books in hand.
A nerd with glasses on.
A nerd who doesn't have any relationship.
A sexually impotent nerd.
A nerd who wears a U.S. Polo shirt.
A nerd who is hot in a nerdy way.
They said. Everyone. Each fucking student.

I was an introvert who interacted with a few people which included two of my best friends, Jessica and Lukas. They weren't judgmental from my point of view. Still, I didn't know they were the snakes in disguise until one day—the day I was shattered, the day darkness enveloped me, the day my soul died, the day I was brought back to India, which changed everything in my life, the day I became the devil everyone refers to.

Someone said the beginnings and endings are beautiful but mine were none. And the day when I saw her first, introvert like me, lonely and alone and very quiet, observative and her doe eyes, her Hourglass figure, and the way she walked like a runway model. It was love at first sight for me. I was enthralled by her not by her beauty but by the way she carried herself, and organized herself. I dreamt about her. Everyfuckingday. The patience I've endured when she joined the same class as mine. It was like a fate, a string that was thin and deadly.

But I never knew it was the beginning of my destruction along with hers. No one knows what's coming ahead.
The mystery no one can solve.

(FLASHBACK END)

A lone tear escaped my eye at the memories from the past that haunted me and my soul. I try to stand tall every day but sometimes the darkness engulfs me completely in the trap. "Veer, What happened?" A soft voice startled me and I rubbed my face with my palm. I looked over at her to see her wearing a long t-shirt—My t-shirt and shorts. She sat beside me as we looked outside and listened to the song of rain.

"You didn't answer me." She pouted and I gave her a smile which I knew didn't reach my eyes at all. "Nothing happened, sunflower," I assured her, and she linked her hands in mine startling me. "You know you can tell me anything if you want." Her voice was quivering as if she was nervous to say so. "I know." "Good. when you are comfortable, I'm all ears." She said and hugged my side. I gave her a nod and hugged her back. Her presence is like a bandage to my wounds.

"Wanna sleep?" I asked her and she shook her head. "Then now?" I asked again this time looking outside. "I am spending a little time with you." Saying this she kept her head on my left shoulder while we both remained silent surrounded by the sound of rain outside. The singular feeling I am feeling right now is Peace. I'm at peace with her. Only Her.
